Celebrating Our 52nd Year of Dance!

The American Academy of Ballet, under the direction of Maris Battaglia, is celebrating its 52nd year of dance. More than 147 students have gone on to achieve prominent careers across the States, Canada and Europe in dance companies, television and the Broadway stage. We are proud to continue that tradition throughout the many years to come! The Academy's success and continued philosophy over the years is that "love and positive reinforcement can work together in a warm and caring atmosphere to provide experiences that will last a lifetime."

Amherst Youth Ballet

Garland

In the past, the Academy has put on a spring performance titled the Amherst Youth Ballet after the pre-professional dancers in the Academy's Junior and Senior Companies. Students performed pieces from Mary Poppins, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker and Peter Pan, amongst others. This increased each student's repertoire in a professional atmosphere. Every dancer had the wonderful opportunity to perform alongside each other and professional dancers, such as Daniel Ulbricht from New York City Ballet. The future of the Academy was actively displayed on the stage during this special performance!

The Amherst Youth Ballet was founded by Executive Director Maris Battaglia in January of 2003. This young company is a non-for profit organization with dancers ages 13-18. The company performs classical, neoclassical, and contemporary pieces. Many of these works are set by major choreographers from around the United States, including Michael Vernon, Joseph Cipolla and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. These talented young dancers provide the area with the finest performance opportunities in Western New York.
